Baseboards

Baseboards are a decorative piece used to cover the intersection of where the drywall, and flooring meet. They serve a practical function because they protect your drywall from any unwanted damage, and cover imperfections. How tall should my baseboards be? We recommend using a 7 ¼” wide baseboard for ceilings 9 feet tall and above, and either 5 ½” or 5 ¼” for ceilings 8 feet tall, and under.

Casings

Casings are used as a decorative piece around windows, and doors. They cover any gaps between the drywall, and the frame.

Chair Rail

Chair rails are used as a decorative piece running across your drywall. While looking elegant, they simultaneously have a practical use, as they protect your drywall in high traffic areas where things are moved. Eg. Furniture such as chairs, couches, stands, etc.

Crown Moulding

Crown Moulding is primarily used for decoration because of the elegance it can add to any room. It sits atop of the interior wall, creating a beautiful transition from the drywall to the ceiling. How tall should my crown moulding be? We recommend using a 7 ¼” wide crown moulding for ceilings 9 feet tall and above, and either 5 ½” or 5 ¼” for ceilings 8 feet tall, and under.

Door Jamb

The door jamb is a piece of the door frame. It covers the rough framing, and is what the door hangs on. Door jambs are typically sold as blank canvases, but are then used to create 3 vital pieces for door installation – the hinge jamb, strike jamb, and header. What size door jamb do I need? Typically, if you have rough 2 x 4 framing you need a 4 5/8” wide door jamb, and if you have rough 2 x 6 framing you need a 6 5/8” wide door jamb.

Door Stop & Shoe Mould

Shoe Moulding sits in front of the baseboard. It helps hide any gaps between the floor, and the baseboard. Shoe moulding, also referred to as door stop, is also used as the piece that sits atop of the door jamb to stop your door from swinging, and keep it in place while shut. Hence the name – door stop.

Flat Stock

Flat stock is the most versatile of all the trim profiles. It can be used for baseboards, windows, wainscoting, and other decorative uses.

Panel Moulding

Panel Moulding is used as a decorative piece used to embellish a space. Atop of the drywall It is typically placed on flat, and curved areas throughout homes.

Shiplap

Originating as a use to waterproof ships, shiplap are interlocking boards. Each board has a rabbet cut at the top, and bottom of the plank that interlock and create a tight seal. While they may no longer be used on boats, they make the perfect addition to anyone trying to embellish a space in their home!
